James A. Classen, MD, FACS
James A. Classen, M.D., F.A.C.S., graduated Summa Cum Laude from the Georgia Institute of Technology in 1976 with a Bachelor of Science in Applied Biology. He graduated from the Medical University of South Carolina in 1980. Dr. Classen was on active duty in the U.S. Army from 1980-1989. He spent 5 years at Eisenhower Army Medical Center in general surgery residency and then was on the staff at Womack Army Community Hospital from 1985-1989. He is board certified and is a Fellow in the American College of Surgeons. He has been with Village Surgical Associates for 14 years. Dr. Classen has been active within the community as well as at the hospital. He has been Chief of Surgery at both Cape Fear Valley Medical Center as well as Highsmith-Rainey Memorial Hospital. He has served as Vice- Chief of Staff as well as Chief of Staff at the Cape Fear Valley Health System. Additionally, he has served as a member of the Board of Trustees for the Health System.
